AWS unveils $2M facility in Sydney

Artisan Wine Storage

Media Release - Consumer

New $2million 12°C wine storage and tasting lounge Artisan Wine Storage is giving collectors the chance to protect their wine just in time for the hot Australian summer.

When it comes to wine storage, light, humidity and fluctuating temperatures impact a wines longevity with heat prematurely ageing wine and oxidisation destroying the wine generally as a result of a lack of moisture in the cork. Artisan Wine Storage has been specially  designed to counteract these damaging elements, providing storage that is at a constant 12°C with 55-75% relative humidity, free from UV light and vibration. However Artisan Wine Storage is more than just a storage facility; it uses cloud-based wine management  technology and has been designed to really encapsulate the perfect wine-centric facility.

Artisan Wine Storage is the first storage facility in Australia designed to exceed the Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency. This internationally recognised code of practice certifies good wine storage management in the key areas of temperature, humidity, lights, vibration, insurance, hygiene, inventory management, security and maintenance.

Artisan Wine Storage CEO, Eamonn Egan believes whether you’re a first-time collector or an experienced wine connoisseur, proper wine storage is essential and can enhance his clients’ experience with wine collecting.

“We have bottles of 2002 McLaren Vale Shiraz purchased for $22 currently laying in storage that the winery expected to last only 5 – 8 years, but after 10 -12 years they’re still drinking beautifully. Essentially, with wines such as Penfolds Grange for example, we can elongate the lifecycle curve whilst slowing down the maturation process,” says Eamonn.

“One of the reasons I chose 12°C for the facility is because of the effects of the GFC over the past six years, which has seen less wine being traded at auction and exported  overseas. This has led to current vintage wines along with prior vintages sitting in wineries and private collections in 16-18°C or even higher conditions. If they don’t slow down the
maturation process they run the risk of not being able to sell the wine at the premium it deserves later.”

Whether looking for a long-term solution for ageing premium wine or simply requiring temporary storage while moving interstate, Artisan Wine Storage offers wine storage solutions no matter how large or small the collection.

Wine Management Portal™
Artisan Wine Storage chose to use the expertise of Wine in Cloud Software Solutions Pty Ltd to develop their cloud-based Wine Management Portal™ - a subscription based solution for collecting and reporting on wine. The Wine Management Portal™ was designed specifically for the wine industry and enables the user, advanced online interaction with their wine in the care, custody and control of Artisan Wine Storage.

“The Wine Management Portal™ enables the user to almost “touch” their wine in the warehouse, and provides a sophisticated and innovative solution for ‘virtually’ managing your wine collection online” says Eamonn.
